If I Could Be Someone Else for a Day

Someone Else for a Day
Daily writing prompt
If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

If I could be someone else for a day, I wouldn’t choose a billionaire,
I wouldn’t choose a global icon,
I wouldn’t even choose the most successful person in the room.

I think I would choose someone who has a lot of friends.

Not just acquaintances. Not just followers. But the kind of person whose phone is constantly lighting up. The kind who gets invited everywhere. The kind who always has a table full of people.

I’ve always wondered what that feels like.

To walk into a room and instantly belong,
To have ten different people to call on a random Tuesday,
To be surrounded by noise, laughter, plans, group chats, and inside jokes.

Just for a day, I’d want to feel that.

Not because I’m unhappy with my life.
Not because I feel lonely.
But because I’m curious.

Curious about what it feels like to be wanted in so many spaces at once.

I imagine it must feel validating. Reassuring. Almost intoxicating.

But I also know something about myself.

I know I wouldn’t want it for long.

Because here’s the quiet truth: I don’t think I’m built for constant access.

I like depth,
I like silence,
I like conversations that don’t require performance.

And the few friends I have, the very few, know me fully. Not the polished version, not the socially adjusted version, not the easier-to-digest version.

They know my 100%.

They’ve seen my overthinking. My contradictions, my quiet seasons, my loud ones. They’ve seen the parts of me that don’t make it to group settings.

And that kind of knowing? It’s rare.

If I had dozens of friends, I wonder how many versions of myself I’d have to manage. How many personalities I’d stretch into to fit different rooms. How much of me would remain untouched and unseen.

So yes, if I could, I’d experience it for a day.

I’d feel the noise. The attention. The abundance of connection.

And then I’d come back.

Back to my smaller circle,
Back to the calm,
Back to the safety of being fully known by a few rather than partially known by many.

Maybe sometimes we don’t want something because we lack it.

Maybe we want to experience it once, just enough to understand that what we already have is exactly what fits us.

And maybe gratitude sometimes comes from curiosity.
